January 13, 2025 - With some of the best skiing east of the Rockies, Sault Ste. Marie has over 150km of groomed trails in two unique destinations including Stokely Creek Lodge and Hiawatha Highlands.
Blessed with monumental snowfalls, Stokely is consistently voted one of the top five places to cross-country ski in North America. With 100km of spectacular trails for both classic and skating routes spread over 12,000 acres, including 25km of dedicated snowshoe trails, Stokely is one of those rare cross-country ski-in ski-out destinations.
Rates are all-inclusive, covering Scandinavian-style lodging, home-cooked meals from the in-house chef for a five-star experience. You can also rent skis and snowshoes, as well as arrange group or private lessons.
Hiawatha’s Highlands is only 10 minutes from downtown Sault Ste. Marie and is a local favourite with something for all levels of skiers. With over 50km of professionally groomed trails, for both classic and skate skiing there are three unique systems at your fingertips.
Fat biking has also grown in popularity, and Hiawatha Highlands offers more than 9km of trails to enjoy. The cozy clubhouse is a great hub for passes, refreshments, rentals, or a place to warm up before your next excursion.
