February 3, 2024 - Sault Ste. Marie offers some of the best skiing east of the Rockies and a true winter experience with monumental snowfalls. For Nordic skiers, Sault Ste. Marie has over 150km of groomed trails in two unique destinations.
Stokely Creek Lodge dates back to 1976 and has 100km of these trails, with both classic and skating routes spread over 12,000 acres, including 25km of dedicated snowshoe trails, amidst the spectacular Algoma Highlands.
Stokely is consistently voted one of the top five places to cross-country ski in North America and is also blessed with monumental snowfalls. Stokely is one of those rare cross-country ski-in ski-out destinations. You can also rent skis and snowshoes, as well as arrange group or private lessons
Rates are all-inclusive, covering Scandinavian-style lodging, home-cooked meals from the in-house chef for a five-star experience.
With over 50km of professionally groomed trails, for both classic and skate skiing on three unique systems, Hiawatha’s Highlands is only 10 minutes from downtown Sault Ste. Marie and is a local favourite with something for all levels of skiers.
Check out the 2km Kinsmen night skiing section within the Crystal Creek system, or enjoy more than 9km of snowshoe trails that run parallel to the ski trails. Fat biking has also grown in popularity, and Hiawatha Highlands now offers more than 9km of trails to enjoy.
The cozy clubhouse is a great hub for passes, refreshments, rentals, or a place to warm up before your next excursion.
