August 3, 2024 - (Hayward, Wisconsin) Did you know that the tradition of competition between lumberjacks began in the 1890s, but the first Lumberjack World Championships weren’t held until 1960 when Tony Wise founded the event. Given Hayward’s roots in the logging industry, Wise felt it was the perfect place to celebrate the skills of American lumberjacks.
The first event took place at Historyland, a historical theme park on the shores of Lake Hayward, also founded by Tony Wise. Although Historyland no longer exists, the event eventually moved to the Lumberjack Bowl in Hayward, Wisconsin.
“The Lumberjack World Championships were inaugurated in 1960 to perpetuate and glorify the working skills of the American Lumberjack. Hayward, Wisconsin came into existence because of the lumber industry; therefore, it was fitting that one of the largest logging competitions should be held here also” – Tony Wise, Founder – Lumberjack World Championships & American Birkebeiner.
Don’t miss out as the tradition continues 64 years later – tune in for a live stream of Championship Saturday! Witness all the excitement and action unfold in real-time as the competitors earn their titles as world’s best.
