February 26, 2024 - (Hayward, WI) US Ski Team members, Jessie Diggins and Gus Schumacher proved unstoppable at the 50th running of the legendary American Birkebeiner on Feb. 24 winning the 50km freestyle women’s and men’s events.
Despite challenging conditions and course changes the Birkie greeted 1,000s of xc skiers for North America’s largest cross-country ski event part of the global Worldloppet series.
Schumacher is coming off his first World Cup victory in the men’s 10k skate on home turf in Minneapolis on the previous weekend as 20,000 fans were thrilled to see his historic win as the first American man to win a distance World Cup in 41 years, since Olympic silver medalist Bill Koch won in a 30k in Sarajevo in 1983. Diggins landed on the women’s podium in third.
