October 30, 2022 - (Callaway, MI) A major fire on Oct. 10 ripped through the main lodge at popular Maplelag Resort near Callaway, Minnesota, destroying the 54,000 square foot building reports Valley News Live. Fortunately no one was injured while the cause of the fire is yet “undetermined”.

Fire crews were challenged given the resort’s location as the beloved resort in Becker County suffered its second fire. The first happened in 1999 but owners, the Richards family, rebuilt the facility.

“It’s just so sad. It’s so horribly sad. They’re just such a good bunch. You hate to see any place burn. You don’t want to see anyone lose not only their home, but their place of business,” said Becca McCollum, who lives nearby.
