January 22, 2026 - (Breckenridge, CO) Founded by Gene Dayton in 1969, Breckenridge Nordic in Colorado is “cutting edge” and “ahead of its time.”

A first-class operation, it’s a full-service destination and the cross-country ski and snowshoe epicentre of the Breckenridge, Colorado locale, with lodging only minutes away.
The Legend Forest trail system features separately groomed routes for classic and skate skiing (18mi/30km), and snowshoeing trails (12mi/20km), along with three trailside cabins and some dog-friendly routes. Advanced trails like “Shock Hill” and “Hang Ten” have to be skied in one direction, but the majority are two-way.

Trail and hut names give a feel for Gene’s and wife Therese’s sense of humour (moderate route “Gluteus Minimus” along with advanced “Gluteus Maximus”) and religious devotion (“Hallelujah Hut” on the “upstairs” trail system).

The 10,000-square-foot “Oh, Be Joyful” Lodge offers retail, waxing, and a wide range of rental gear including a restaurant, bar, and family lounge area with a large fireplace.
Breckenridge Nordic is family-run and the community-minded Daytons also offer adaptive ski programs. Gene is the Founding Director of the www.BOEC.com local adaptive ski program.

Home to the only North American Demo Center featuring Prinoth Husky XC snowcats, Breck Nordic also offers exciting Snowcat Adventure Tours with full-view glass windows and comfortable leather seats.
