August 23, 2024 - The Junior Nordic Site Director is responsible for oversight for an individual location/time within the Junior Nordic program. Site Directors hire head coaches and manage all coaches for that location, communicate with both parents and coaches about each practice, and are the main point of contact for parents and other NSAA staff.
Job Description/Title: Junior Nordic Site Director
FLSA Status: Part-time, non-exempt
Reports to: Junior Nordic Program Director
Salary: Seasonal and part time stipend for the season in addition to hourly coaching pay DOE
Location: Anchorage, Alaska
Key Responsibilities:
• Hire, mentor, and supervise coaching staff at site. Ensure that all coaches have completed required
paperwork/training
• Communicate with parents and coaches using the Remind app prior to each practice
• Lead a parent orientation (either in person or on Zoom) for your site the first week of practice
• Manage roster of students and work with head coaches to ensure proper placement and progression
• Manage the site’s “Cookie Tour,” the method for accomplishing the initial sorting of groups
• Coordinate, compile, maintain, and submit attendance records
• Evaluate daily skiing conditions and adjust practice plan or cancel practice if necessary
• Communicate any changes in practice with Parents
• Track and submit coach hours to the Business Manager biweekly
• Maintain site wax boxes, first aid kits and games equipment
• Coordinate emergency response and reporting for incidents that occur at practice
• Troubleshoot conflicts, concerns, discipline issues or other problems as needed
Responsibility to Safety:
• First aid procedures are covered at coaches meeting with a focus on cold weather injury prevention
• Coaches prioritize a warm up and stretching exercise at the beginning of every practice to get themselves and their skiers warmed up
• Coaches are to carry cell phones if they have them; radios are available to carry at Kincaid
• Head coaches are to carry first aid fanny packs. All coaches are urged to carry hand warmers, neck
warmers, extra mittens, a small roll of duct tape and some gauze bandages
• Coaches are to report any injury, to skier or to coach, within 24 hours of the incident
• Utilize rescue sled and insulated sleeping bag or blanket (available at all venues) when necessary
Qualifications:
• Able to cross-country ski from beginner to intermediate levels, preferably in both skate and classic
techniques
• Able to coach beginning to intermediate level skiers, previous experience preferred
• Ability to interface with the public, staff, and participants in a polite and professional manner
• Reliable transportation to/from worksite
• Ability to lift up to 35 lbs
• First Aid Certification preferred
• Professional Ski Instructors of America Coaching Certification L1 or higher (or equivalent), and/or
commitment to pursue such certification preferred
• Able to work with spreadsheets, the Remind messaging system, and other necessary software
