Jackson XC is Shaping up for XC Ski Season and Annual Ski Swap on November 7

October 4, 2020 - release by Jackson XC

October 2, 2020 – While JacksonXC staff and volunteers are getting the trails ready for you we know you are getting ready for skiing in many ways. From swimming (this last week’s weather allowed swimmers a super-late “swan song” in the water) to cycling, trail running and ski hiking. If you follow FKT (fastest known time) leaders, you may be interested to read about Jordan Fields who currently holds the “triple crown” of the White Mountains, in this recent FasterSkier article.

JacksonXC’s winter operations are coming… check out the Ski Swap on Nov. 7 ©

In addition, we learned that Jess Marion, a former JacksonXC instructor and AMC Hut Croo member, holds the female Presidential Traverse FKT (fastest known time), 4:35:47, set just this past weekend.

JacksonXC’s first dry run at Winter Operations will be the Nov. 7 Ski Swap, and this means that we need YOU to scour your ski room for equipment that will see more trail time in someone else’s hands. We are getting calls every day from skiers who are looking for equipment and the ski swap is a great way to put some extra money in your pocket while supporting JacksonXC.

Thank you to the skiers who have made their season pass purchases already. Your early purchase helps JacksonXC make the trail improvements we will all enjoy this winter. Plus having a season pass this winter lets you enjoy the benefits (and fun!!) of cross country skiing with minimal person-to-person contact. With your pass you go straight to the trail, no need to visit the Touring Center or be stopped on the trail to have your credentials inspected!

Nex week we will tackle two trails: the Troll Trail near the Red Fox Grille parking lot, an area which will require some “heavy lifting,” including raking and “chucking rocks,” and also Ellis River Trail, starting from the Cocoa Cabin, parking on Hemlock Road and access the trail via a storage property of JacksonXC. If you can let me know in advance that you are working on Oct 9 that will help with the planning. (Parking is limited on Hemlock!)

Schedule for Walk & Work:

October 9: Troll Trail, meet at the Red Fox Grille lot; AND Ellis River Trail, meet at Hemlock
October 16: TBA
October 23: TBA
October 30: TBA
A Weekend Volunteer Day will be scheduled for November.
