September 18, 2020 - release by Jackson XC
September 16, 2020 – Moving right along…and eagerly looking forward to ski season. Right now we are working hard to make this the best season possible. There will be more people than ever eager to get on skis, and cross country is the way to go when you want the best of all worlds, the glide, the joy, the kindred spirits and fresh air aplenty.
How is this going to happen? Just like learning to ski, we will start out a few steps at a time, develop a new sense of balance and flow, and practice what we learn until it becomes natural. I think we all hope this “new normal” never becomes really normal, but by adjusting now, we can provide the skiing and snowshoeing we all love, and maybe introduce some new skiers to winter fun on the trails.
One of the ways we are working to disperse skiers is to improve access from alternate trail-heads. This will allow season pass holders the best options for direct snow access: Valley Cross Road (Wave, John, Henry), Troll Trail from the Red Fox Grille (a straight shot to the Ellis River Trail) and North Hall/Kellogg from Rocky Branch, plus Prospect Farm and East Pasture offer season pass holders direct-to-trail skiing, no-indoor-time required. We are working now to make trails from remote parking lots groomable in more conditions.
You can help by committing to JacksonXC early with a season pass purchase; and encouraging your friends to do the same. Thank you!
Volunteer opportunity
Now through the end of October we will hold “Walk & Work” Volunteer Trail Sessions on Friday mornings; 9:30 to 11:30 am. Tasks will include clipping and small branch removal, raking waterbars, cleaning culverts and bridges. JacksonXC will provide light tools or bring your own. We will all wear masks when meeting, organizing and walking in proximity to each other. We will spread out to work on tasks. If this timing does not work for you, please let me know and I can find alternative project/dates for you.
