December 16, 2023 - Located on the famous 70km Central Gunflint Ski Trail system Golden Eagle Lodge’s motto is “unspoiled and unforgettable”, and for good reason.

Set right on pristine, serene Flour Lake in the Superior National Forest of Northeastern Minnesota, Golden Eagle delivers first-class grooming daily with their new PistenBully 100 that now features VarioTrackDesigner tracksetters — new technology for the United States.

Their trails were designed specifically for skiing with a good mixture of one-way and two-way trails, and all are groomed with a single track and skate lane.

There’s plenty of skiing for beginners and intermediates — roughly 75% of the trail system — plus several trails to provide a challenge for more accomplished skiers.

Golden Eagle also welcomes snowshoers on their large network of dedicated snowshoe trails. The trails are open to day skiers as well as overnight guests.

The network has five Adirondack-style huts for shelter, fun and rendezvous points. There’s also a heated wax room.

The handsome lakeside and trailside cabins are drive-in/ski from your cabin door, all are smoke-free, approximately half welcome dogs, two are barrier-free, and all feature full kitchens, bathrooms and fireplaces.

Located 30 miles from the nearest town, Grand Marais, it’s smart to get groceries and beverages there on the way to Golden Eagle, since guests customarily do their own cooking. Dining out is also an option, as there are several restaurants just minutes away, while there are more eateries in town.

You can rent top-of-the-line ski and snowshoe gear in the Lodge, and instruction is also available. This low-key year-round resort is owned and operated by the third generation of the Baumann family, that offers you Midwestern hospitality at its best.
