28th Annual Alaska Ski for Women on Feb. 4 is North America’s Largest Women’s XC-ski Event

February 1, 2024 -

(Anchorage) Make a costume, make a memory, make an impact: the Alaska Ski for Women is returning to Anchorage this weekend with events on Saturday, February 3rd and Sunday, February 4th. The Alaska Ski for Women is North America’s largest women’s cross-country ski event, with close to 1,000 women coming together to ski the trails of Kincaid Park.

While this is a women-focused event, the Alaska Ski for Women has expanded in recent years to make space for participation by skiers of any gender. On Saturday, February 3, we welcome anyone to register, pin on an event bib, and ski the course independently during the Friends and Family Ski.

Again this year, the course will be decorated for both the Saturday Friends and Family Ski and Sunday’s big event. Course decorations will include colorful decorations, a photo booth, sponsor banners, and over 100 pink flamingos! There will also be educational signage with facts about domestic violence and domestic violence prevention along the course.

The main event is on Sunday, February 4. Freestyle and classic timed races are followed by a costume contest and an untimed party wave. The party wave is an opportunity for participants to showcase their creative costumes and ski the course with friends. Throughout Sunday, the Kincaid Chalet will buzz with food, hot drinks, massages, a Flamingo Mixer, and more! A sizable silent auction will be on display with virtual bidding running from 12:00 pm on February 1 through 8:00 pm on February 4.

The Alaska Ski for Women is a fun-focused event that makes a meaningful difference in the community by creating a welcoming environment for women of all skiing abilities to get out on the trails, and by granting event proceeds to Alaska nonprofits working to end the cycle of domestic violence. Abused Women’s Aid in Crisis (AWAIC) and Standing Together Against Rape (STAR) Alaska were our 2023 grantees. Both organizations will have representatives at the Kincaid Chalet during Sunday’s event. A portion of event proceeds also benefit the Nordic Skiing Association of Anchorage, who maintain and groom 160 km of trails used by thousands each year.

Schedule for Sunday, February 4:

● 10:30 am freestyle (skate) race

● 11:00 am classic race

● 11:45 am costume parade and contest
